72 hour kit - Week One - Get Prepaired

Do you remember when I mentioned that I had a great preparedness series that I wanted to start? I am finally ready to begin remaking my 72 hour kit.

I say remaking it because this is the third kit that I have made in the last year. The first two were pillaged and emptied of food and flashlights. I am  hoping that I can decrease pillaging by moving the kits out into the living room.

Even remaking my 72 hour kit seems a bit daunting, which is why I am breaking it down into weekly segments.

Week One - Get Prepared

This is a bit ironic to get prepared to get your family prepared. This week commit yourself to starting your families 72 hour kits. Realize the commitment that you are going to need, both financially and in time and space. Familiarize with the general outlines of the next steps to see if there is anything that you will need to gather or purchase.

Also on the agenda this week is to get a backpack. For now I will be using discarded bags. I plan on replacing these bags with inexpensive, but sturdy, book bags when school supplies come out again.

To Dos this Week

- Get backpack for 72 hour kit
- Look over the 72 hour kit outline below to roughly plan for anything you will need to gather or purchase.
-Realize that by taking small steps you are doing great things to help your family be prepared (ok that is a bit cheesy - but it is also true).

Week Two - Copy and Summarize Important Information/Documents

Week Three - First Aid Kit

Week Four - Bedding and Clothing

Week Five - Medications and Other Special Needs

Week Six - Food and Water - Pack What You Eat

Week Seven - Basic Needs

Week Eight - Let's Have Some FUN!
