I have officially done it. After a painstaking, drawn out search, I have found a CSA that fit my needs. You would think in Southern California this would be easy - and in truth I probably did have more options then some places. My big problem is that I could not have them deliver to our house while I was at work - there is no place to leave it. I also wanted the food to be organic, preferably certified organic, and I wanted variety. As much as I would like to invest in a whole cow at the moment it is just not going to happen. So, the ability to throw in some grass feed beef, organic raisins (L's food of choice), or even some extra fruit (my favorite argument is that no one has gotten fat on bananas) was a must.
I finally settled on a place near my work, so I can run on a late lunch and pick it up every week. What this means for you is that I will now be posting a weekly menu using seasonal vegetables - well seasonal in Southern California.
The downside is that I have not posted about any of this foods as of yet - I have not even made most of these foods yet. Heck, I do not even think I have eaten half of these food yet. I will even admit that I have had to Google some of these vegetables to get a clue as to what they are.Yes, this is going to be a huge change for everyone involved.
So, at least at the beginning the foods are going to be as simple and comfortable as possible. If I can pass off turnips and rutabaga as potatoes - works for me. While I do not lie to my kids about what is in their food - I also do not tell them before they eat it.
It is my goal that the weekly menu will be posted every Friday - so check back often for great ideas.
