Emergency Preparedness - Are you Prepared for a Minor Emergency?
Those of you who are following my blog have read about the minor emergency that has crept up at our house - although at the moment it does not seem all that minor I do know that it is. Yet, even our minor emergency has been helped by being prepared.
Having money in the bank has been a life saver. We were nearing the end of the month when I found the crawling creatures in L's hair - a month were I had to host two birthday parties at the beginning. Although February is shorter, it is also one of our more financially constraint months.
Our expenses (thus far)
Lice medicine (or chemical nastiness) - $30.00
Quarters for the laundry mat to mass wash clothing and bedding - $30.00
A metal hair comb ordered from Amazon to get out the nasty nits - $11.00
Food on the unplanned eating out night because we spent hours at the laundry mat - $40.00
Total - $111.00
Yes, I consider eating out an unplanned emergency expense. The $40.00 was a bit excessive, but my mom, who was helping us, was adamant against In N' Out. So, part of that is paying for help. My Google research has found that a professional lice (yes they exist) person would cost at least $300 - so we are still being frugal.
On top of the expenses we grabbed the remnants of our 72 hour kit (more on this later) and found the rubbing alcohol. We used this to soak the brushes and the nit brush - while we could have picked up a bottle for a dollar it was nice to have it at the house when we needed it.
Emergencies come in all shapes and sizes - sometimes they even crawl (yuck!). Sometimes while preparing for a major emergency you are also helping ease your burden when the minor emergencies pop up.
