To use up the bag of sweet potatoes I decided to try my hand at sweet potato chips. Their seemed to be a variety of ways to cook them, but I ended up deciding on my dehydrator.
I sliced the sweet potatoes up in my newly acquired ten dollar slicer (during a daring trip to Walmart). I do think that sweet potatoes must be one of the most difficult things to cut. I gave my poor slicer a trying introduction.
Yet in the end I had a bowl full of beautiful sweet potato circles.
I took the slices, dunked them in freezing water, then put them for five minutes in boiling water, then back into the freezing water.
Then I placed them in the dehydrator. It took about six hours before they were finished.
Overall the effort was not too bad. Unfortunately the chip was not well liked. They are extremely hard, and not very seasoned. According to J, even if we seasoned them it would not help them much.
It is a bit of a disappointment. My kids love the bag sweet potatoes. It also had me eying the fryers - like we need yet another kitchen gadget.
