When she was turning seven she wanted a Dr. Seuss party. This was the only party that I ever hosted at my house. I was amazed that about twelve kids showed up. The party turned out great. My favorite part was the tradition that was started that year.
For her party I purchased a copy of Dr. Seuss's book Happy Birthday to You!
For her eight birthday she wanted a Dr. Seuss party again. We ended up seeing a local production of Seussical the Musical as a big family. It was super fun. Her birthday fell on a Sunday that year - and she brought her book to church and had everyone sign it. I went back and dated the pages that we had used. And when someone wrote on an off page I threw a year next to it.
This is the third year she will get signatures in her book. It is set and ready to head to school tomorrow. I can only imagine how many autographs and messages it will contain when she gets home. I already wrote one for her. It was fun for me to go back and see what was written in it - L wrote her own message as well. I can imagine her having this collection of her birthdays when she is older. I wish I had started something like this for her siblings as well.
I did not include the pages full of writing. They all have her name on them - and often her last name as well so the whole thing will be blanked out anyway. Imagine a high school year book - pretty much the same thing.
