The Beauty of Art

This week I wanted to do a spotlight on the talents of my children. It is so easy to be swept away in the challenges that come with everyday struggles and overlook the amazing achievements of my children.

It is also a way to devote some time specifically to one child.

Today I am posting on the artistic talents of my daughter S. S's creativity really started to hitting home to me when she was about the age of nine. She would spend hours rummaging through our recycle bin to create artistic masterpieces. It was her honest understanding that to recycle meant to reuse the item in it's current form. The concept of breaking down the egg certain to be reborn as paper baffled her. To recycle meant to take that egg carton and turn it into a caterpillar instead.

At some point I will have to dig up and post some of her earlier artwork.

S has always loved to draw as well. When she was in elementary school I would node and tell her how creative her drawings were. However, her skill, at the time, was more in sculpture. Then she hit middle school and her drawing skills became apparent to even my untrained eye.

Here is a drawing that she did at the beginning of the year.

Presents for S typically run along the lines of crafts or art kits. This year a family friend gave her a kit full of water colors, markers, pastels, chalk, a basic easel - basically everything a beginner middle school artist would need.

As she explained to her grandmother - she was experimenting with pastels when she made these creations.
